This talk is regarding a new type of medical treatment, described in a recent review article in Nature called Bioelectronic Medicine (http://www.nature.com/nrd/journal/v13/n6/full/nrd4351.html) and in this article in NY Times called Can the Nervous System be Hacked (http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/25/magazine/can-the-nervous-system-be-hacked.html?_r=0)
This is about the future of electronic medicine or e-medicine which will focus on developing neuro-modulation devices to treat a variety of chronic disorders, such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, prostate cancer, bladder incontinence, infertility, asthma, and auto-immune disorders.
This field is very new, just 6-months old, and the National Institute of Health (NIH) has just announced investing $240M for the rapid development of these e-medicine solutions.
